Occasionally when I’m not in the mood for watercolors, I’m inclined to do little handmade projects. Usually that means pulling out my sewing kit, but a co-worker at my part-time was showing the custom characters he’s been making from the Marvel Tokidoki blind box key chains we sell and I was inspired.

So here’s my first ever attempt at making a custom chibi figure: a little human version of Nicole the A.I. Lynx from the Archie Sonic the Hedgehog comic. I’d say I did a pretty good for a first attempt at this, no?

Stories in the Park

Submission for Neil Gaiman’s ” A Calendar of Tales” for the month of October. I loved the visual of Hazel and the djinn just sitting around in the park sharing stories, the tale about spying on the angels had to be my favorite. And any excuse to do my stylized smoke is a good one.

I’ve reached a point where having to start a painting over after nearly completing it is met not with anger or despair, but with a methodical determination of ‘Oh look that’s what went wrong, shame I didn’t catch it sooner. Let’s fix that up now shall we?’

I don’t know why but the realization makes me happy.

Figuring out how to best set up the background was a bit of a challenge but I like to think I succeeded.

not every picture has to be a masterpiece

try new things but remember its ok to draw things you like to draw

just because someone younger than you is “better” than you are does not mean you are untalented

everyone sees things differently

be proud of what you can do because nobody can do things the same way you can

June Hovick is kinda the person I wanted to be when I was growing up; someone who looked at herself, saw an opportunity to become who she really wanted to be, and took that leap of faith without looking back.

I cannot wait to get my hands on a copy of The Posterchildren. I can already tell it’ll be my new favorite book.
